I have to admit that I’m one of those people that doesn’t understand the elements of music. I just know what makes me feel good when I listen to it. I’ve listened to a little classical, and it’s ok…though not my favorite. But, I absolutely love piano music.

I was friends in my 20s with a girl that I met at work, and we took a road trip to her parents weekend home in North Carolina one year. All of my tapes were old classic rock, which she hated, so we listened to her country tunes. I had never heard a country song before, but could sing along by the end of the trip.

When we got to the house in NC, she introduced me to the George Winston albums that her parents had in their collection. I know one 4 of the albums myself and find them so soothing.

The friendship is long gone, but I’ll always thank her for introducing me to two of my favorite musical genres.

Thanks for the free mini-course. I read the selection on stress. If you have time it would be very helpful for me if you could give some well known examples of each kind of music-one that causes tension and one that doesn’t. Thanks!

This for this great mini-course! I’m working on writing a health book on moms and stress, and I have a section on music to relieve stress. May I write to you if I need more info? This was very helpful, and it made so much sense. I especially appreciated the advice to use music you know. I violated this rule at a dinner party recently, and no wonder I felt so much tension!
